Choose Between 0W-20 and 5W-30 Without Guessing
0W-20 is generally easier-flowing during cold starts and remains thinner at normal engine operating temperature. 5W-30 is slightly thicker during cold starting and belongs to a thicker operating-temperature grade.
Neither oil is automatically better for every car. The correct choice is the viscosity and performance specification approved for your exact model year, engine, market and operating conditions—not whichever oil seems thicker, newer or more expensive.
0W-20 vs 5W-30 at a Glance
Use 0W-20 when your vehicle specifies 0W-20. It is commonly selected for modern engines designed around low-viscosity oil, efficient cold-start circulation and reduced internal drag.
Use 5W-30 when your vehicle specifies 5W-30. It remains in a thicker SAE grade at operating temperature and may be required by engines designed for that viscosity, including many older, turbocharged or higher-load applications.
