Honda recommends using 5W-20 API detergent oil (or 0W-20). It works! (But there is a ton of evidence that 0W-30, 5W-30, 10W-30, 0W-40, 5W-40 work as well depending on climate and use.) The Honda Element engine is easy on oil.
