FAQ oil type 2008 honda odyssey

What type of oil do you use in your 2007 Honda Ody?

I understand Honda officially recommends 5W-20 for my 2007 Ody, but I plan to switch it to 10W-40 Synthetic on my next oil change. I have never felt comfortable to go below 10W-30 on any of my vehicles. I use 20W-50 in my 1996 Accord which currently registers 322K miles and counting.

What kind of oil to run in the ODY?

Increasing oil weight is not the boogey man many make. I would be ok with running a Euro Spec 5w-40 in the Ody. 10w-40 would probably be ok to, if you have a real reason to use it.

Can I use 5W-20 oil in my Ody?

The tight bearing clearances aren’t built to tolerate the higher viscosity. When the engine gets very worn then the clearances are bigger and the higher viscosity oil is often a good idea. I’d stick with the 5w-20 on the Ody. If you have 0w-20 that’s ok too.

Can I use higher viscosity oil in my Ody?

The tight bearing clearances aren’t built to tolerate the higher viscosity. When the engine gets very worn then the clearances are bigger and the higher viscosity oil is often a good idea. I’d stick with the 5w-20 on the Ody.
